Important points to note regarding market holidays
Muhurat trading is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2022, which is the Diwali Laxmi Pujan day. The stock exchanges communicate the specific timings for Muhurat Trading as the date comes close. Investors and traders must note that trading holidays are not the same as clearing holidays. On trading holidays, the market remains closed and trading cannot be done. On settlement holidays, the banks remain closed, however; the markets are open. Therefore, trading can be done but the settlement of trades cannot take place on these days.
Conclusion
In any given year, the stock exchanges can amend any of the holidays mentioned in the holiday list. Any changes to the holiday calendar are notified in advance to market participants via a circular. Every year, the stock exchanges conduct Muhurat trading, the timings of which are announced through additional notifications.
